Fines and Parenting Course for Poker Playing Mother

After the attraction of the poker game appears to be too great to resist, a judge in the Wyoming area has provided a poker playing mom with a second chance to clear her name of child neglect. As the poker arena concentrates on WSOP 2008, it is interesting to note that there are other things that are happening in the world that have a connection to poker. In April a confused mother found herself in a district court faced with charges of child neglect after apparently playing poker at a charity event while leaving her three children sleeping in a car outside. According to police reports, Diem Thi Tran seemingly participated in a charity poker event at Woody's Press Box in Wyoming, while her three children were found asleep in a car in the parking lot by a police office in the early hours of the morning. It was reported by the police that the children, ages 5, 10 and 15, could have been in the car asleep for up to three hours. Tran herself denied that the children were left in the car for as long as three hours and apparently claimed that they were only alone for about half an hour. It appears that Tran had also been driving the vehicle without the necessary documents that are required by law such as insurance papers. After proceedings were translated into Vietnamese for Tran's benefit, this week the judge has presented her with the chance to clear her record. It is reported that the judge told Tran that if she pays the necessary fines and attends a parenting class during six months he would ensure that the charges would be dismissed. In the meantime, the children have been tended to by the Child Protective Services and have been placed in the custody of their father. It does however appear that Tran lives together with the children and their father. |
