Mid to Late Rounds - Multi-Table Tournament StrategySome players believe the middle part of a multi-table tournament to be the most difficult. The major aim during the middle stages are to begin gambling carefully and gather chips with an eye on the final table. The basics of the mid to late rounds … The early stages of a multi-table tournament (MTT) are based on tight play, while attempting to gain as many chips as possible. It should be noted that some of the weaker and inexperienced players are eliminated from the game in the early stages. However, there do appear to be certain changes in strategy when a player reaches the mid to late rounds of an MTT. One of the most important aims in the mid to late rounds is to carry on collecting chips so as to ensure continuing into the next round. It is not advisable to take too many risks at this stage, so as not to jeopardize everything. After all, the big prize money lies in the final table – in the top three places - and the aim is therefore to reach the end table, with as large a stack as possible. Observing other players at an MTT … Following the tight play from the early stages, many experts would recommend loosening up a bit during the middle period of the tournament. However, players still need to be careful. It is strongly advisable to continue to observe the actions of other players. Players can be out there to win, while others are just trying to survive and get through to the later stages. Looser play in the mid to late rounds … During the middle part of the tournament, the blinds start to become larger. Looser play allows players the opportunity to gain more chips. It should be noted that the amount of chips earned is important and not just ensuring survival to the next round. This is because players who reach the later stages of the MTT with a small stack size may be obligated into taking greater risks than desired. In such a case there is the chance that all will be lost. Stack size in the bubble … The bubble is an exciting stage of the MTT. In this stage just a few players will have to leave the table before the remaining players go for the big money. At this point players have to concentrate on the size of stacks. Players who have a large stack go into the bubble in a strong position, as other players may tend to keep away rather than attack. To summarize, the main elements of the middle to late rounds of an MTT are to manage to survive. However, it is also important to survive cleverly. It is important to reach the later stages with as many chips as possible and therefore collecting chips along the way makes a big difference. In addition, patience and positive play can often help players to reach the end table of an MTT. |
