Bluffing is a necessary part of every kind of poker and it is the main factor that makes the game very interesting and amusing. If we would always have the best hand and win and our actions were deal and showdown then our game would be rather boring. But we play another game which gives us opportunity to bluff, the chance to play with real money, and the ability to play skill game, that is full of mystery and excitement. If you are going to become a successful bluffer then you should take into consideration some aspects that we present below.
- What are the characteristics of your table? Is it an impaired loose table at PartyPoker.com or a compact bunch of semi pros at Full Tilt? Commonly, there is no sense to bluff at a loose table. The gamblers most likely will not understand that you are bluffing, and they are more likely to raise your bluff with their one instead of folding. The most favourable conditions to use bluffing strategies are when you playing at the tight tables. Keep your bluffs for tables full of rocks, when it will have a good opportunity of prospering.
- What about the table limits? When you are gambling low limit poker, than you should not bluff very often. Commonly in limit poker the pot is great enough by the end that most gamblers will call a wager on the river if for nothing else than to observe what defeat them. It is more wise and even advisable to bluff when you play high limit, no limit or pot limit poker. Using bluffing strategies here you increase your chances to win.
- Whom are you going to bluff? There are more chances that a bluff will work against a skilled gambler than against a weak one. As we mantioned above, weak gamblers may not even undestand they are being bluffed and moreover frantic players may raise you back because they know just this play. You should obviously bluff a strong gambler who is able to lay down a good hand. There is one more way to learn how many chips does the gambler have. If he dispose of a lot of chips and is on a good run, he will call because he can venture to. If a gambler is playing a short stack or even "rent money" it is more likely that he will fold to your pressure.
- Are there many gamblers you try to bluff? It is advisable to bluff only one or sometimes two gamblers but not more. Your aim with a bluff is for every gambler to fold. Remember: the more gamblers you need to fold, the less possible you will win thanks to a bluff.
- What is your table image? If you have created a tight image yourself over the time of a poker session, your bluff will have more chances to succeed. In case when you are running “hot” on a winning streak, the other gamblers will give your wagers and raises more credit. And in case when you are running “cold”, gamblers will not be so quick to esteem your wagers. And your bluff for sure will not work in case when you have shown down several weak hands and the table apprehends you as loose.
